Under time pressure to receive grant money, the Cedar Key Aquaculture Association appealed to the Cedar Key Commission at its June 7 meeting for approval to move the Anchor Hole parking lot. Another parking situation, parking for a sports bar/restaurant on Dock Street, was given final approval by the Commission. Also, increases in garbage collection fees and development plan fees were approved on second readings. Several police issues were discussed, however, participation in the Levy County Anti Drug Taskforce was tabled. Furthermore, changes in the administrative procedures at City Hall were discussed. Mike Hodges, representing the Cedar Key Aquaculture Association (CKAA), asked the Commission for approval of the move of the Anchor Hole clammers' parking lot to a new location on Hodges Avenue. The CKAA has applied for a U.S. Department of Agriculture small business grant to buy two lots for a parking lot on property owned by Ronnie Taylor. The CKAA needs assurance that the Commission will grant a conditional use permit for aquaculture at the new location. The Commission voted in favor of a letter of intent. Paul and Mary Rimavicus, owners of the soon to open Coconuts in Cedar Key Sports Bar/Restaurant, received final approval of a petition for parking space. The approval is the result of a joint agreement between the Rimavicus couple and the City that allows the use of parking spaces in the Marina area after 5 PM. Mr. Rimavicus said that food prepared in Ann's Restaurant would be served in his bar. The Commission gave final approval of a five percent increase in garbage collection fees for businesses. It also increased fees for development plan reviews despite a series of questions from Bill Delaino. Regarding police matters, participation in the Levy County Anti Drug Taskforce was tabled at the request of Police Chief Dan Swogger. The need for a "meter maid" or some other form of parking regulation enforcement was discussed, but left unresolved. Commissioner Heath Davis suggested that a scholarship to the Police Academy for a local resident might develop local talent. Return to Cedar Key for service would be a condition of the scholarship. Preparation for Commissioner Sue Colson to assume oversight of the Maintenance Department got tentative approval by the Commission. Also, in response to a question from the audience, matters that had come under an administrative item on previous agendas will now be placed on the agenda under Clerk's Items. That change will avoid having new items addressed under the catch-all item called Administrative Issues. |
