Police Beat

Jim Hoy

Starting early July 23 the Cedar Key Police had a busy weekend. An arrest for driving under the influence, battery of a Cedar Key woman and an altercation between two neighbors with potential for a felony occupied the police.

According to a police report, Douglas Arthur Hull, of Palm City and three day short of being sixty-three years old, was stopped following erratic driving and driving fifty mph in a thirty-five mph zone. Hull subsequently failed roadside sobriety tests and breath alcohol tests at the Levy County Jail. He was charged with driving under the influence and speeding.

The afternoon of July 24, in responce to a disturbance on Dock Street, Sesaley Bretz, 20, of Trenton was arrested and alleged to have struck Gladys Poole of Cedar Key in the head and face. A police report names two witnesses who gave sworn statements. Bretz was taken to the Levy County Jail, charged with battery.

An altercation between two neighbors in the absence of witnesses the afternoon of July 24 resulted in what may become charges of aggravated assault and battery against one Cedar Key man and/or battery charges against the other. Each man has filed a complaint against the other, and the matter is in the hands of the State Attorney.
